Painting

N likes to paint. We have these brushes with paint in them... saves up on a tiny bit of the mess. Anyway, N's new thing is to take some stickers, put them on a paper and then totally paint over top of them. It's the only painting he'll do. Odd, but it keeps him busy for a while.

Alphabet

I didn't know N knew his alphabet (or at least the alphabet song). He has these leap frog magnetic letters, which he plays with for about 2 minutes and then knocks all on the floor. As I put them back up on the fridge, I was singing the alphabet song. I stopped at 'P' and N went and finished the rest of the song.

Of course, I can't get him to repeat it.

[Update: N said the whole alphabet to us on Riel Day! Or, rather, what he thinks is the alphabet... he doesn't have all the letters quite right]

Broken

Ah yes, the joys of nursing a toddler. Now he can ask for it, and make comments too.

Last week we were at my aunt's house. It was very close to bedtime and N was getting tired. He climbed up on my lap and asked for "sides". He nursed on one side for about a minute and asked to switch. When I asked him what was wrong with this side, he replied loud enough for everyone to hear: "It's broken".

sigh.

Sleep talking

N has started talking in his sleep. Usually early in the morning, not long before we wake up for the day. Last night, he was talking about Thomas characters again. It started with him shouting:
"Salty at the docks".

Then the conversation continued:
N: Where's Salty?
Me: At the docks?
N: YES!
Me: But it's night time now.
N: YES!
Me: Salty is sleeping
N: YES!

Then he rolled over, nursed for a few seconds and went back to sleep.

Manners

I've been trying not to push manners on N but do the "show by example" thing. He's picking it up. "No thanks" is often used. "Sorry" is used a lot. Often when not needed (we are Canadian). Was used repeatedly as he bumped the step stool into the back of my legs. It appears I was in between him and the sink.

N uses please a lot too, but I'm not sure how he learned not to say "please" but "Pleeeeeeease?" We hear that many times a day. Usually with the word "chocolate". Or now that it's Christmas "Candy Cane".

Thomas: the Obsession Continues

I should update on N's Thomas obsession. He plays a lot with his train track, loves any Thomas book, and when we go out, will often take a little bag of trains with him. He'll point out every train in the books and name them. Somehow, he can even distinguish between Annie and Claribel. Every couple of days, he wakes up in the morning saying "Thomas. Gordon. Percy. Henry. Toby" etc.

He's getting a Percy train for his track for Christmas. It'll probably be his favourite gift.

The Bunny

So N loves Veggie Tales. We rented a couple of DVDs from the library and he can't get enough of them. Mostly it's the songs. Every story has at least one song, and N will get up and dance and sing along.

His favourite is probably the Bunny Song. He sings along with the DVD and quite often throughout the day. He even changes the lyrics to suit his mood. Maybe he loves The Pancake. Or The Duckies.

Now if only I could get him to sing The Mommy.
